Matmatic innovates the craft of traditional hand caning of chairs.

This craft is known for its use of rattan and the hexagonal pattern. The material, rattan, is fixed due to the craft. Innovation occurred by experimenting with new patterns, coloring experiments and rattan techniques. The basic rattan pattern is translated into a computer algorithm that allowed engineers, furniture makers and basketry artists to jointly develop new contemporary patterns. The ring of the stool and armrest of the chair are hand bended.

While honoring the traditional crafts, these innovations are brought together in a specially designed collection. All furniture – from carpentry to caning – is handmade, the master’s hand is visible in every chair.
